---Pretty rough when I first got it home...2/09
A little better after some elbow grease------6/09---
My fine 59 started as a pretty decent stock '59 Ford F-100 that I bought over in Payson in February of '09. It's an all original 292 cu/in V8 with a 4-speed. We had a lot of fun cleaning it up and doing some repairs to the brakes and front end, but the interior and paint were not in very good shape, so I decided sooner or later I'd have to get a paint job and do a little body work---little did I know!!!
I entered it in some car shows-Nephi-American Fork-Salem-Payson in the "under construction" class and had some fun hangin' with the Camero and Malibu groups, but mostly I just wanted it shiney and quieter. It was really tough to talk in it, 'cause the mufflers were shot and no headliner so wasn't too much fun for Dee to ride in. I thought it was a pretty cool ride though and stored it through the winter, but it still needed paint in alot of spots!Thats the tire in that hole !
In spring of '10, I got it out, but the car show's were not much fun, you really can't have it "under construction" and not do any construction -it's not fair to the competetors-if you know what I mean...sooo I got the exhaust fixed and started to think about the interior and paint for the outside. Someone had welded plates into the floor on both driver and passenger side to cover the rust holes. Probably 1/4" and really laid down the weld too and when they did it, they cut out most of the support under the floor where it had rusted through, so it had to be fixed now or else loose the whole floor. Rob Dallin helped me fix the small hole in the roof, thats what really started the rusty floor. It was for an antenna or something, when it rained thewater came through the hole, down through the windshield, on to the dash board, then dripped onto the floor makin' it rust on both sides. So other than adding an additional 35 lbs of weight, the plates that were welded in cornors were just rusting through like the floor was before ...it was such a mess. Ron Valdez , tac welded it all back together and its beautiful. I'm having Horvath Hot Rod help me with the sanding and primer. Joe's been fun to work with and the work he does, is increadable, besides he's showing me how to do it too, sort of like a classroom set-up---you know what I mean----
This is the kids and me checkin' out the new front end. meet Riley, Kinzie and Keegan.they really are the best. Im thinkin' about removing the chrome grill and installing the painted unit----let me know what you think----
After I got the bed removed, I took a wire brush and scrubing pad and got after the frame, bushings in leaf springs need replacing, but it's not in too bad of shape. I sprayed it down with undercoating and I'll put it back together as soon as I get the bed primered
Lookin better
Dee's excited about drivin' it, but you'll need both feet----sorry sweetie, you'll just have to wait
July 2011 time is really movin' along. Took the cab over to the "metal wizzard" for some finish work. Ron took care of the holes in the dash, where the chicken coop hasp had been installed-sure wish I'd taken a picture of that and the small chain steering wheel that was on her when I brought her home.
I had Cole help me with the windshield-It's in the little bedroom with a blanket on it. Dee Ok'ed it
Gittin' there.....I've used 5 cans of chemical stripper
